Getting started
The best place to begin is usually your local indoor cricket centre or state association. New umpires can often start in local competitions while developing their knowledge, confidence, and match-management skills.
Previous umpiring experience is helpful, but it is not always required. A strong understanding of the game, clear communication, sound judgement, and a willingness to learn are equally important.
National umpiring pathway
Australian Indoor Cricket is developing a nationally consistent framework for umpire education, accreditation, development, and appointment.
The framework will support officials progressing from local competitions through to state, national, and international tournaments. Information about courses, accreditation requirements, assessment, and appointments will be published here as the framework is introduced.
